Don't forget to check my Esty website for my Christmas in July Sale. I am offering 15% off all items in my store from July 16th through July 24th.

Memory Wedding Quilt-Part 2

This is the 2nd part of the Wedding quilt I am in the process of making for a customer. The first part was about the process of making of the front of the quilt from the setting of the blocks to the sewing it all together. This 2nd part is about layering the backing, batting and front together and quilting it.

The fabric came this weekend for the backing of the quilt. We chose a chartruesse background in the same line as the border for the front-Sugar Pop From Moda.

This morning I set about putting the three layers together. First I taped the backing to the floor so it would  stay completely taut and not move:

Then I layered the batting over that:

Then I placed the front of the quilt on top of that and pinned many, many safety pins all over the quilt through all three layers to keep it together while being quilted:

I should be finished with the quilting tomorrow and then I just have to put the binding on it to finish it. It should be on it's way to my customer by the end of the week.

Custom Memory Wedding Quilt

I am in the process of making a Custom Quilt for a customer who instead of having guests at her wedding reception sign a guest book, she had them sign charm blocks. She sent me those blocks, along with blank ones, and I am using them to make a quilt.

My first step was to layout and arrange all the blocks on my wall to get the best variation of the prints and colors

Once I had everything arranged and was happy with the way the blocks were, I added white sashing in between the blocks and sewed the blocks into rows. The rows were then sewed together with sashing in between them. Finally, I added a border of white around the whole thing.

My next step was to shop for a border fabric. It had to have the colors of the quilt in it and also had to have the same feeling of the quilt. I chose a print from a collection called Sugar Pop by Liz Scott for Moda. I sent a picture of the front of the quiltas it was at that point with  the fabric next to it to my customer for her to see it together and to let me know if it was okay with her. It was, so I now I can sew the border on and shop for backing fabric, probably from the same line of fabric as the border.

Check back in a few days to see the outer border on, the backing fabric we picked and the beginning of hte quilting process.

We picked out a backing fabric in the same line as the border. It is a yellow background with the same flowers on it. I had to order the fabric, so it will take a few day to get it.

Quilt Block Curtains

I am in the process of creating 3 sets of curtians as a custom order for a customer who has just recently built a log cabin which they use as a vacation home in the winter months. The cabin has 3 rooms that I am making curtains for: living room, bathroom and bedroom. Below are pictures of the curtains for the bathroom and bedroom.

                                      This is the bathroom curtain:

The fabrics used in this curtain are batiks that match the countertop in her bathroom. She owns an Irish setter that she wanted to incorporate into the design.

This is the Bedroom curtains:

The bedroom curtains we designed based a quilt she had purchased for her bed. There are 2 curtains-one for a regular window and one for a sliding door. The quilt had square patches around the outer border and the center had a bear walking amongst the trees with the moon shining. We decided to use the bear block as repeat block with the the square patches separating them. On the bottom of each bear block is a "dirt" path with bear pawprints. She wanted the top and bottom of the curtains to have a red border.
